FRENCH CRYPTOLANGUAGES WITH A FOCUS ON "LA LANGUE DES OISEAUX"

This bachelor thesis focuses on a sociolinguistic theme concerning the problematic of french cryptolanguages and choses la Langue des Oiseaux as a representative of cryptolanguages to analyse in more detail. The topic is described in relation to two disciplines whose principes create the basis of the chosen cryptolanguage - sociolinguistics and general linguistics. The thesis explains the exact position of the cryptolanguages in the diasystem, presents relevant social groups, describes many of the linguistic features most used for encryption, deals with the topic of slang/argot and offers a summary of the cryptolanguages, dividing them into two groups - major and minor french slang/argot representatives. There are five major representatives : largonji, louchebem, cadogan, verlan and javanais, and several minor representatives, among which we find the language of children, the language of SMS, the jargon of the professions or la Langue des Oiseaux. The last mentioned representative is dedicated an entire chapter in order to reveal its origins, the motivation for its creation and its history of use from the past to the present.
